Is there in Ariege a vernacular architecture?

One can think that there is not in Ariege of vernacular or traditional architecture if one seeks a model which would represent this department, which one would identify the origin of the first glance.

  Then why this site?

Because there is not ONE but MANY vernacular architectures.

  * Closed in the South by the Pyrenees, Ariège is opened in North on the areas neighbor and in was subject to certain influences
* It does not constitute a cultural unit: on the contrary it was administratively founded by the meeting of different areas
* Offering a diversity of landscapes and reliefs, one meets in Ariège a diversity of husbandries which led to the construction of so various buildings
* Finally the geography of the mountainous zone with its multiple valleys supported the development of relatively autonomous communities which forged strong cultural identities, each one with its traditions and its architecture
